"Life begets life. Energy creates energy. It is by spending oneself that one becomes rich ." - Sarah Bernhardt
Hi,
And welcome to the 14 February 2007 edition of Getting More Out of Life.
Yesterday I went to an introductory seminar with Kurek Ashley. Kurek calls himself a Peak Performance Coach, and he holds the world record for completing the longest firewalk so far, around 80 meters (ouch....). It was an interesting evening, with not so much a lot of "new stuff", but definitely a fascinating slant on personal development. One of his closing remarks prompted the subject of this ezine: Kurek emphasized the importance of investing in ourselves. And I wholeheartedly agree with him.
Spending on ME
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last year, I invested around $10,000 in my personal development. Now that's a lot of money, for which we could have flown to the Netherlands and back, could have bought a second car, could have opened a savings account to save for our new home, and could have done a lot of other things. I didn't. I spent it all on me. Honestly, I think I am my most valuable asset. Everything around me can crumble, I will always have myself left. I am also my wisest investment. The return on that investment is priceless! By constantly working on me, whether it is increasing my business skills, networking skills, marketing skills or developing my spirituality, my health, my relationships, etc, the time and money invested in me will ALWAYS pay off. Maybe not straight away, but definitely in the medium to long term.
Are You Investing?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How about you? What have you invested in yourself over the last couple of years? Have you grown as a person, have you learnt new skills, are your relationships the way you want them, are you challenging your comfort zone? If not, don't worry. No need to feel guilty. In this all-embracing universe of ours, all choices are equally good. There is something called the Law of Cause & Effect, though. As you sow, so you reap. If you decide not to invest in YOU, but in "things" and temporary enjoyments, chances are you will not make major strides. And that is alright is you don't feel the urge to do so. On the other hand, what happens if you invest money wisely? It comes back to you in multiples, without you having to do much for it. And with more money comes more options in life.
Multiples Back
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The same holds true for your personal growth and evolution. The more you are willing to invest in it wisely, the more it comes back to you in multiples, giving you more options in life! That is worth a big bag of money, trust me! So.....
Set a Landmarc
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Firstly: Look at your past investments in yourself, in whichever area you want to look: assess what the investment was, and compare the person you think you are now with the person you think you were then. What are the differences? How have you grown? Was it worth the investment?
Secondly: Pick two to three areas in your life you would like to create some change or forward momentum in. Decide what it is that you desire to see as the result of your investment, and put a price tag on it. What is this end result worth to you?
Thirdly: Find the person/company/group that is offering this result to you for the amount you are willing to spend, and sign up!! Make the commitment! Do something, for your sake.
Lastly: Be open and receptive to seeing the evidence, the return on investment, by assessing what has changed in you since you have made the investment. Look at the short term, and most definitely at the medium to long term!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I must confess: some investments in me I made 10 years ago are only just now starting to pay off. Does that matter? No way! Some of my investments in stocks and shares I made 10 years ago are doing the same thing. I am still happy with the end result. Remember: whatever happens around you, there will still be you. That is something worth investing in!
Go for it! Until next time, and expect greatness!
Best regards,
Marc
