Some people didn’t fully grasp what I meant with ego, or thinking mind. Here’s a further explanation.

Bear with me; this ezine is longer than usual, but I really want you to get this. I know it could be the key to unlock people’s personal and business fulfilment!

When we are born, we really haven’t got a clue who or what we are. There is no identification with anything. Yet, as we grow up, we start to see forms or shapes that are NOT us: a “form” that seems to be around us all the time (that’s your mum), a “form” that seems to be around quite often (that’s your dad), other “forms” (brother, sister), a “form” that seems to provide shelter and comfort (your fluffy bunny or bear), some “form” you lie on (your bed), etc. etc.

Through constantly observing who you are NOT, you start to get a sense that you are separate from all these things, whereby a concept of “I”, or I-dentity begins to develop. All the forms around you then –paradoxically- become part of your concept of you, they become part of who you are! You can I-dentify yourself through them.

Over the years, this process goes on and on. You talk about “my” friends, “my” country, “my” job, “my” money, “my” wife/husband, “my” thoughts, “my” history and “my” future. Talking about them in that way, you get to see all these concepts as part of who you are. Now this is your ego.

What ultimately happens is that you can pretty much only positively identify yourself by looking at all the “forms” you have made part of you. Outside those forms, there hardly is any sense of SELF.

So…..what do you think happens when one or more of these concepts are taken away from you? Right, you lose part of yourself! This is why many, many people are totally upset when they lose their job: they lose part of their identity! The same goes for losing a wife/husband, child or friend, but also for losing money, losing a house, losing health.

It’s what happened to me when I quit law. My identity as a career minded corporate lawyer was suddenly blown out of the water, and I lost a HUGE part of ME, of my identity. No wonder I lost my perceived sense of self, and communicated to everyone who wanted to hear it that “I was lost”.

My personal conviction has always been that we are WAY more than all the things we identify ourselves with and through. There is a driving force in us, a BEING, that cannot be identified as such, but truly makes us who we are. You see it most easily when we die: the body will still be there, but the life giving force that was US is gone. “The soul has left”, we say.

Now as an awareness coach and mentor, I make a point of telling my clients that, as long as they identify themselves with things around them, they will always feel a sense of insecurity and emptiness. Why? Because every-thing around us is temporary, will ultimately leave us. And then we lose part of our so called identity and are still not fulfilled……

This is the reason why we always seem to be chasing for more; more money, more prestige, more recognition, more safety, more security, more stuff. We think that, by acquiring more, we can find more of ourselves, and be happy with who we are. Still, a very true Dutch saying goes: possession is the end of pleasure. Once we have something we want, we enjoy it for a while, and then start looking at something better, more expensive, more elaborate, more effective, etc. This is a continuing cycle. Just think about your car; are you truly enjoying it as much as you did the day you got it? Or are you furtively looking at the next model already?

In theory, the solution is simple: stop identifying with things and people around you. Recognise that you are WAY more than the all the external realities. Be IN the world, not OF the world. This will give you an internal sense of fulfilment and enthusiasm, which will automatically start to translate into worldly success and achievement –without the ego-attachment! Your personal and business success will be guaranteed, because YOU are “in the flow”!

The practice is slightly tougher than the theory, though! In my previous ezine I gave you some tips to start becoming more NOW, more present.

Becoming aware of yourself, regardless of the people and things around you, is the way out. Or actually, the way TO, namely, to yourself, the REAL you; the immortal being, changing in and out of form. I will elaborate more on this topic in the June issue of this ezine, as I think it is of paramount importance that we become more aware of who we truly are.

The direction in which our planet is headed shows a future divide between people totally lost in external identification (ego minded people), and people who have become more aware, and realise that SELF can be only found within, and never without. Understand me correctly, neither one of the two is inherently “better” or “worse” than the other. The Law of Cause & Effect, on the other hand, will bring about different results for both groups. I know which group I prefer to belong to.

Set a Landmarc:

Firstly, notice 5 areas in your life where your sense of self is dependent on outside circumstances. These could be your career, your financial status, your family status, your health, your education, your country, your upbringing, etc. Where have you formed an identity of YOU around these external items?

Secondly, the litmus test for your attachment and identification to and with things is this: what would your reaction be if you lost that thing or person? Gentlemen: if you buy a brand new car, and your neighbour –whom you allowed to have a spin- writes it off completely, do you then feel hurt? Or can you smile, feel good about yourself and say: “ah well, it’s just a car”? In the first instance, you are attached!
Ladies, if you really do your utmost to look ravishing for a night out, and someone comes out of the crowd and spills coffee over your satin dress, do you then feel hurt? Or can you smile, feel good about yourself, and say: “ah well, that’s what they’ve invented washing machines for!”. In the second option, you are not attached.

Thirdly: observe where you are defensive about things, people, and opinions. If someone doubts your point of view, or brings your family in discredit, do you then react? If so, part of your identity lies with your opinions and family.

Lastly, start realising that there is nothing wrong with identifying externally. We all do it, some more than others. Also realise, though, that something will always seem to be missing as long as you do that. The universal question “who am I?” –and everyone will ask that question one day!- can never be answered by looking outside yourself. Only looking and reflecting within will allow you to have an experience of who you truly are.

Ultimately, knowing who we are is our life’s purpose. It will assist us in creating everything we want; The Law of Attraction will constantly provide, whether in your business or private life, because your thoughts are in line with awareness.

CD offer Zero Field exercise

Return to www.landmarc.info

Hi there,

A couple of days ago I sent out my April edition of “Getting More Out of Life” ezine.

I spent some time explaining the concepts of “ego” and “identity”, and how they keep us trapped in the past and/or the future. We are constantly looking forward, or looking back, and hardly live right here, right now.

I also explained that the key to living a more fulfilling life lies in becoming more aware, more “present”. Presence transcends all time, is not bound to past or future. It means living in the now.

Just imagine how your personal and professional life would change if you become more laser focused, and less scattered, all as a result of “clearing your mind”.

Recently I recorded a CD called “Zero Field” that allows you to do just that: become more present. I am convinced that listening to the CD, and immersing yourself in this state of presence, will have these benefits for you:

*It will make you more susceptible to good ideas and “ah ha!” moments. Remember that life is never a matter of resources, but always a matter of resourcefulness. The CD will assist you with becoming more resourceful.

*Your adrenaline levels will drop, your acetycholine levels will rise. In simple terms: you will feel less stressed, and more relaxed.

*You will become more magnetic for the things you desire from your professional and personal life a, and less magnetic for the things you do not. Remember that Law of Attraction is always listening for your predominant vibration. Becoming more present is a positive vibration!

*You will –literally- get out of your mind. Being stuck in thought patterns is very tiring, and the exercise on the CD assist you in letting go of these patterns. You will become still.

*You will become clearer on your goals, and on where you want to take your life or business. Unnecessary mental noise will disappear.

*Your sensory acuity will increase. You will become more aware of what goes on around you, and will be less distracted by your inner voice.

*You will feel great afterwards.

The only moment we have is the moment of NOW.

The past is history, the future is a myster;, today’s the gift, and that’s why we call it the present.

Right now, I am offering my Zero Field CD for the special price of A$19.95. That includes worldwide postage. Some people tell me I should sell the CD for more, but I am quite happy with the price point at the moment. That may change in the near future, though!

Do yourself a favour, and become more present. You will thank yourself for it! Ordering through Paypal is easy. Until this happens, however, most humans see only the outer forms, unaware of the inner essence, just as they are unaware of their own essence and identify only with their own physical and psychological form".-Eckhart Tolle.

Hi there,

and welcome to the April edition of Getting More Out of Life.

Ego, identity, persona. Interesting words, but what do they really mean to us in coaching and personal development terms?

My teachings have always revolved around the fact that we think that we know who we are. This is because we can talk about ourselves: "I am Marc, 39 years old, born in the Netherlands, partner to Simone, father to Kyara, ex-lawyer..... etc.... We will go on holidays in June, I have meetings planned next week, and in 10 years time I'd like to have mo-ney to burn, etc.......".

Doing so, I give myself and identity, and ego. I can "speak of me", and of others too. All this is part of the world of opposites, where things can go right, and things can go wrong. It's also part of the world of linear time, where things seem to have a history and a future.

When we get too caught up in this world of mind games, we will find our emotions and moods will swing from past to future, from right to wrong, from good to bad. We will complain that it seems impossible to hold on to a happy feeling. It seems to run through our fingers, and then gets replaced by another -good or bad- feeling.

The same goes for motivation: sometimes we have it, and sometimes we don't. Why can't we keep it!? Sometimes we seem to be on a roll, other times nothing seems to work. The past seems safe, the future seems misty and dangerous!

Why are we on this roller coaster, are we seemingly unable to find peace of mind, and are most of us always looking for more (either in terms of stuff, or in terms of knowledge, wisdom, etc.)? It is because our ego mind is constantly flicking forwards and back between past and future, between what was, and what could be. It is constantly comparing past and future, and judging the one better or worse than the other, thereby either wanting to get rid of the one, or attain the other.

The only place the ego mind cannot be is RIGHT NOW, in THE PRESENT. Our identity lives in the past or in the future, but never in the now.

In this now, or present moment, there IS peace of mind, there is this feeling of awe and gratitude that has no opposite, and we can all attain it. One major benefit of being in this presence-state, is that -paradoxically- you can get much clearer about what is the "right" way for you to do things. You actions will become effortless, your desires will begin to manifest mysteriously (which is the pure application of Law of Attraction). All this is because in the state of presence, there is no polarization, no pulling one way, and then pulling another way.

I admit, all this sounds very metaphysical and esoterical. It becomes very practical, though, when you start to apply it! Whether for business or personal success, being right here, right now will make you so much more effective.

So......the thing to do is to bring more presence into your life, and here are a couple of tips to do just that.

Set a Landmarc:

Firstly, become aware of your emotional swings. That sounds odd, but I mean it. Start observing how your mood swings on a day to day, moment to moment basis. In Neuro Linguistic Programming, one of the ways to get a client to step out of his emotions is to let him observe them. When you look at an emotion, you are not in it anymore! You are right here, right now. It is a very powerful technique to become present. Watch your emotions come, and watch them go, without being (too) attached to them.

Secondly, start becoming involved in what you are doing with all your senses. When you are brushing your teeth, brush your teeth, instead of thinking about what tomorrow is going to bring. When you are preparing a meal, prepare a meal, instead of regurgitating the discussion you had with your partner 2 hours before. When you are eating that meal, eat it, instead of flicking through a newspaper. Have all your senses involved in the action you are taking. This will allow you to be present, instead of being in the past or the future!

Thirdly, when you notice your thoughts are drifting off into the past or the future, both in positive or negative ways, breathe deeply two or three times, and focus on the airflow and the expansion of your lungs and abdominal region. Again, this brings you into presence, where the ego identity mind cannot be.

Lastly, don't make it too much effort. Effort is the domain of the ego again, namely: comparing how you DID things with how you SHOULD DO things. Past & future! Play with the concepts, and feel the difference when you are able to bring a couple of seconds of presence into your life.

My firm opinion is that major amounts of people in today's society are stressed, chronically fatigued, burnt out and sick and tired because of the grip our ego minds have on us. I am convinced that by becoming more present, living more in the here and now, we can lead more purposeful and happy lives, because we will know what to do when we need to do it, instead of freaking out.

Now that's something worth going for, I'd say!

Getting More Out of Life

Return to www.landmarc.info

"Personal leadership is the process of keeping your vision andvalues before you and aligning your life to be congruent with them-Stephen Covey.

Hi there,

and welcome to the March edition of Getting More out of Life.

Have you seen the movie "the Secret"? Many people rave about it, and partly for very good reasons.

It's a great movie if you want to get some insights into how our brains actually operate on a -let's call it- creation level. It is sometimes said that "it's all in our minds", and I believe that to be true. Reality = Perception of Reality, and perception makes reality subjective, makes it our creation. The Secret teaches us that we, within our own perceived reality, are able to create whatever it is we want, as long as we put attention, energy and focus on our desires.

The speakers in the Secret are right. Over the years, I have been teaching my clients similar fool- and fail-proof techniques on how to do it: create a life and/or a business which is their conscious choice. The techniques are easy and simple, just as life is easy and simple (trust me: the more you work with this"stuff", the more you realise that life really is easy and simple. It's us that make it seem complicated.....).

The Secret forgets to mention one thing, though: the fact that you are already perfectly and exactly creating the life and business you want. Right now!

But hang on a minute, you may say: there things that are absolutely not working in my life at the moment! How come you say I am creating "perfectly"? There's nothing perfect about it!

Well, here is a statement for you to chew on: as far as value system is concerned, you ARE leading a life and/or running a business in perfect creation. You may not like all the results, though.

Confused already? Alright, here's a brief explanation.

We live our lives by our values. Our values are the things that are most important to us in our lives, certain experiences we choose over others. To give you an example: if you really value your family life, you may choose family over career. Or if you value health more than you do finances, you may spend more money on health related items than you will on saving for later.

Makes sense, doesn't it?

Realise that no value system is better than another. They are just different.

Once I know what a person's values are, I can virtually predict what that person is going to do in any given situation: s/he will decide according the hierarchy in his/her value system. Unless a very conscious decision is made to do things differently this time.

For example, again: if a person with business values in his top 5 has to choose between spending $500 on advertising or on buying new curtains or carpet for in his house, the choice is relatively easy! So too for his wife (who doesn't have business high in her values list!

In relation to our value system, we are perfect creators. If we value our comfort zone more than we do getting OUT of it, we will do just that: stay in our comfort zone! Nothing wrong with that, but the results may not always be the ones we want!

There is a simple solution -and The Secret does not talk about that! Change your values hierarchy, and start living accordingly. Again, we often do that without thinking about it! A person with drinking, eating and partying high in the values hierarchy will promptly change his life when he is confronted with a severe, drinking related illness! And when we seriously had enough of some aspects in our life, we can suddenly change everything around to reflect a new values hierarchy.

There is a science to changing your values, and that science is absolutely teachable and learnable. Heck, it was the same science that assisted me to let go of my life as a lawyer, and start all over as a coach in a different country!

Your personality type plays a big part in assessing your current values and changing them, if that is what you desire. Dreamtime Personalities is a great tool to use in that respect! If you would like to make a start, look at this Landmarc.

Set a Landmarc:

Firstly, look at current results you have created in your life or business, both positive and negative. Realise in all honesty that you have created these results by your values hierarchy. And if you think some of the results were outside your sphere of influence, then realise in all honesty that you have created the response to these results through your values hierarchy!

Secondly: have a close look at how you would like your results to be. If some of your current achievements aren't the way you want them, ask yourself: what DO I want?

Thirdly: what values would you need to have in that specific area to start creating the results you desire? More business nous? More family time? Looking after your health a bit more?Improving communication skills? Find the values and put them into a hierarchy.

Lastly: start living according to your new values more than you do to your old ones. What will you do differently? What actions are more in line with your new hierarchy?

You may say: it sounds easier than it is! But I assure you: it is as easy as it is said, perhaps even easier! If you want to know exactly how to put the 4 steps into practice and improve your business results, or improve your life's results, email me at marc@landmarc.info, and we'll discuss it in more detail.

Go well, be well, and live well.

Marc

marc@landmarc.info
www.landmarc.info

new video!

return to www.landmarc.info

Hi there,

I've finally entered the world of video. After some hesitation (do I have the right gear, will I look stupid, how do I edit videos anyway?) a prompt from Glenn Dietzel made me do it. Glenn is a master at making coaching and mentoring videos, and as I am working with his team I couldn't sit on the fence any longer. To find out more about Glenn and his authoring program, look up http://www.awakentheauthorwithin.com/ and www.booksmeancredibility.com.

Anyway, here is my first video, discussing why "ordinary" goal setting won't work anymore in our today's society.

All the best,

Marc

Work the Wu Wei Way

return to www.landmarc.info

"Everything has its own place and function. That applies to people, although many don't seem to realize it, stuck as they are in the wrong job, the wrong marriage, or the wrong house. When you know and respect your Inner Nature, you know where you belong. You also know where you don't belong."
-The Tao of Pooh.

Hi there,

I may have spoken to you about it earlier, but I am a pretty big fan of Taoism (or Daoism) as a life-philosophy.

Taoism revolves around "The Way" -which is what the word Taoism stands for. The Way is always natural, according to purpose. Nothing happens outside of its purpose. In that sense nothing really needs to happen to live The Way; all is good, you could say. Finding The Way means you enable yourself to practice what Taoism calls "Wu Wei", or the state of doing without doing. Life flows, things come easily, it seems like you're not having to do anything and still get everything you want! It's how nature operates, according to Tao; everything is in constant flow.

For me, the transition between Taoism, Law of Attraction (LOA) and goal setting is a pretty easy, and very practical one. The same principles apply in all three of them. Goal setting can be very natural, without any pressure, and by using coaching and Universal Laws goal achievement is "easy as". Goals are achieved because it is their purpose to be achieved, so they will naturally head for achievement (which is exactly what LOA and universal Laws are all about).

We humans tend to believe differently, though. We seem to be convinced that we must force things into being; we MUST do stuff in order to get stuff. We must control the achievement process, otherwise we will not get what we want. Even if we don't like doing something, we must still do it, because without pain there is no gain. And very often we go against our own purpose, because we believe it will serve us better (yeah, right).

Now that dogma (which it totally is), has been superseded by many wise people, but still we keep hanging on to it! Aren't we an interesting bunch. We'd rather be right than happy. Right?

Wallace Wattles was one of these wise people I mentioned. Early 1900's he wrote a couple of books, the most famous being "The Science of Getting Rich" and "The Science of Being Well". In his books he talks about "original substance" or "thinking substance" as the basis of all manifestation. Modern scientists now call that the "Quantum Field", but it is the same thing. Thinking substance has the ability to manifest anything you want, as long as you have a "clear mental image" of your desire, which you then put into the original substance by the thoughts you think.....nothing more is necessary: just a clear mental image, a persistence in keeping that image, and taking the steps towards it that seem natural to take. Very Taoist!

Are you still with me??

I thought so :)

Admittedly, Wallace lived over a century ago, and didn't use the most modern version of the English language, which could make his books a tad hard to read for some people. Nevertheless, I am personally convinced you MUST read both volumes I mentioned, as they can turn your life's experience around dramatically!

There is good tiding though! My friend Ian Crossley (also known as Croz from Oz) has taken the old version of The Science of Getting Rich, cleaned it up, and "translated" it into modern language, which makes the text a lot more readable.

As my (and Croz's of course; all credit goes to him) New Year's present to you, I'd like to offer you the updated version of The Science of Getting Rich. I know, it sounds like it focuses on money only, but that's not so. You can replace the word rich with any other word you want to put in place; the principles stay the same! Please send me an email at marc@landmarc.info, and I'll get your copy to you.

If you like Croz's work, do sign up for his newsletter at this page.

And if you would like to know more about how to live life the "Wu Wei" way, feel free to contact me. I am convinced you can reach that state through some simple techniques, and no: they do not require hard work! That would defeat the purpose, wouldn't it?

All the best!
Marc

PS: on the 16th of February I will repeat the "Introduction to the Keys of Manifestation and Awareness" workshop I organised 1 December last, as many people couldn't make that one. Find the flyer for it enclosed, and if you want to book in, let me know! It's going to be a great day again, I promise you that.

Christmas Thoughts and The Beginning of a New Year

RETURN TO WWW.LANDMARC.INFO

Life is a succession of moments. To live each one is to succeed. -Corita Kent

Have you counted your blessings?

The year 2007 is coming to an end, and many people use this time to reflect on the past 300-and-so-many days.

Reflection can be done in two directions: towards what didn't work the way you wanted it to, and towards what did work the way you wanted it to.

My personal and professional philosophy is quite simple: life "is", and you decide -by your thoughts, feelings and actions- whether you see "what is" as positive, or as negative. Simple example: for the one person a bankruptcy could be the end of the world; for the other it could be an event that makes him/her even more determined to succeed next time round. Still, whichever way you want to see it, it is still a bankruptcy. An event in life taking place. Not good, not bad. Just what it is.

The same goes for illness & health, divorces & marriages, financial hardship & prosperity, personal dilemmas & victories, deaths & births. All are events, and depending on our perspective on life will we consider these events nasty or nice.

What I would like you to do for 2007 is, put your "good" hat on, and look for the successes, victories, celebrations, highlights etc. that came your way. And for events that you originally didn't really appreciate: can you see the blessing in them, the lesson you learnt, the opportunity that lay in them?

Once you start to observe life from both sides, you will start to recognise that there is no "good" or "bad" in life as such, only good and bad in our perception of it; and you have a choice to which perception you would like to hold predominantly. What would you like to dwell on most?

And no, that is not some sort of "positive thinking" hype, it is all about thinking differently, thinking both ways. I honestly think I learnt to understand this concept through and through when I studied and practiced Law. Never ever was there one side to the story, there were always at least two, but most of the time even more than two!

I've made it the foundation of my coaching and mentoring: learn to see the balance in everything, and you will be able to choose to see ANY event in your life the way you desire to. Stick to one (i.e. your own) perspective only, and you may not be able to see the "other side to the story", and could therefore miss out on a solution, or another approach or viewpoint.

Choose to look at only what went right in 2007; think about it and linger over the details. And in what hasn't seem to have been right, choose to see the lesson, the learning, the benefit in it. There will be one, when you commit to finding it. Or as Dewitt Jones once put it so aptly: choose to celebrate what is RIGHT with the world.

Set a Landmarc:

Firstly, Secondly, Thirdly and Lastly: Do it! Please! Our brain operates on "associations", which are memories we hold of events in our lives. If we can choose to hold a better memory, we will choose better actions in the future. It will be worth our while.

Have a great Christmas and New Year, and let's get together next year to make it the best year ever! It is a pursuit of the worst in ourselves, the part that tells us that nothing we do will ever be good enough - that we should try again".
~Julia Cameron.

Hi there,

and welcome to this edition of Getting More out of Life!

Recently I had several sessions with a client who is very successful at what she is doing, but felt her need for perfection still kept her away from achieving even better results.

I totally agreed with her. Perfectionism does keep us away from even more successful action, and is a major cause of procrastination. I know that sounds weird, but just keep reading. My client was able to acknowledge her "handicap", and has made
major improvements in her attitude -and thereby in her success level. Not all the perfectionist are as honest with themselves, though!

Perfectionism is a devious monster. For the (unaware) sufferer from it, it seems a necessary attitude to have to achieve what it is s/he wants to achieve. For nearly everyone else around the perfectionist, on the other hand, the predominantly negative side effects show up: immensely high expectation of others and oneself; hardly ever satisfied with the booked results -it can always be
better!; very sensitive about what others think; usually low self-esteem -there is always someone better than I am; etc.

I was a major perfectionist in my younger years -and probably still have streaks of it, deep down- so I can recognise the traits in others easily. The major one for me was a complete failure to celebrate my achievements; it was never good enough.

In the Dreamtime Personalities, with which I work nearly daily, the Eagle-type person is the most likely type to fall prey to perfectionism; Eagles constantly -it is one of their core needs- strive for perfection, mastery, knowledge, and being the best.

In that pursuit, it is really easy to slide from having a passion to having an obsession, without that person even being aware of the change in focus.

Life for the Eagle type is climbing a ladder; for every rung reached, there is another one to go for. The irony for the Eagle, though, is that the ladder has an infinite amount of rungs, so the pursuit for "being the best" is never ending.

At some point, this can become so discouraging, that the Eagle person will stop climbing at all: why bother if I can never be the best anyway?

That is pure procrastination in action! Putting things off because of feared negative consequences. Something that the Eagle is most prone to, but can happen to the other 3 types within the Dreamtime Personalities as well.

Perfectionism can lead to all sorts of nasty mental and physical symptoms (mine were major headaches...), and really, that is not necessary.

There are relatively easy ways to deal with perfectionist streaks, if you are willing to acknowledge that you have them, that is!

Set a Landmarc:

Firstly: observe where you have perfectionism ruling your life. It may be in any context: health, home, money, career, personal development, family, fitness, appearance, social life, etc. Be brutally honest with yourself, and refrain from judging yourself; just observe. And also observe where it affects others. What unrealistic expectations do you have of them? Where are they worse off because of your attitude?

Secondly: look at what good results you have booked -that means: stay away from criticising yourself- and celebrate them! The more
you can start to observe where you are good (enough), the more you will train your brain to find more of those instances: that's the NLP translation of Law of Attraction!

Thirdly: set some realistic goals. Don't try to be better than the best. Small steps take you a long way. If you want to be a world famous superstar, wouldn't it make sense you start to practice in your backyard, instead of looking up at the "already
there" people, and feeling unworthy yourself!?

Lastly: to deal with procrastination as a result of perfectionism, you want to put limits on time spent on "things". E.g., if you need to study something, decide you will only do so for 3 hours. No more. That prevents you from fiddling about all day without really getting anything done.

There are plenty more ways to deal with perfectionism and procrastination. NLP can help to break through some destructive beliefs, understanding your personality type will make you more aware of what you do and why, and coaching will assist you in taking action new directions. I agree. And so I don't consider the statement to be totally true, but there is some truth in it. I'll explain why.

When clients come to me with their life's questions, usually the underpinning solution to most of the questions is really simple. Ultimately, after peeling off all the layers, people "just want to be happy". Their idea is that, once they have achieved a certain level of "happiness", every other problem or issue will disappear, just like when you shine a very bright light on a shadow spot: the shadow vanishes.

My contention is that although this is a worthy endeavour, "universe", or the Universal Laws, does not allow for the experience of happiness only.

One of the operating laws of the Universe is the Law of Polarity. It states, put simply, that wherever one thing exists and is experienced, there must be an opposite thing as well. So, in order for light to be experienced, there must be something like darkness. In order for the experience of abundance to exist, there must be an experience of poverty.
And, in order for happiness to be someone's experience, there has to be something like sadness (or whatever you consider to be the opposite).

Striving for one experience only, without the other one, is a lost cause. There will always be a balancing-out process between the two extremes of whatever it is that you are experiencing. This goes for your life in general, but also for every single aspect of it, whether it be your career, finances, health, relationships, personal development, spirtuality, you name it.

Now the balancing-out process does not necessarily have to take place in the same context you are looking in. So, for instance, it may well be that you are experiencing absolute financial abundance (which is great), but have poverty in your relationships or your time (which is grotty). Or you may experience great emotional freedom, but lack any intellectual endeavours.

I have a client who is an accountant, and very successful at it, both financially and professionally. His big problem is the lack of time to enjoy the spoils of his work, and the lack of happiness in his relationship with his wife (he works around 90 hours a week). He wants to create more happiness and experience more freedom. That's relatively easy to achieve, but it comes at a price: he will have to work less, and therefore earn a bit less. He doesn't really like that idea, and it upsets him. Nature balances out!
Happiness in one area comes with a letting go of happiness in another.

Not it is never black and white in life, but in general you can say that happiness and sadness go hand in hand. They can not live without each other. There will be times that you are happy, and times that you are sad, regardless which area of life that happens in. See it like the Yin and Yang principle: they form one together, but each separate part has totally different aspects. I call that the Oneness Principle.

In most of our societies we have been trained to stay in a negative vibe predominantly: don't do such and such, look out for blah blah, be careful with this, that and the other, make sure you take care of rah rah. Is is surprising, therefore, that most people on this planet fear the future and look for some form of security? Not really.

We CAN express a preference for the other, better "vibration" (read: feeling), though, which is where Law of Attraction comes in. If you can live with the idea that happiness and sadness always balance each other out, then you can still choose to experience happiness PREDOMINANTLY, and choose it purposely.

Law of Attraction states that you manifest into your life whatever you PREDOMINANTLY put your thoughts, feelings and focus on. The more you choose to stay in one vibration PREDOMINANTLY, the more of that feeling you will experience. I teach very practical and easy to use tools to change that predominant vibration, which will ultimately give you more of what you desire, and less of what you don't. Neuro Linguistic Programming forms a big part of this set of teachings, as the language you use plays a decisive role in what you attract as your experience.

As long as you keep looking for one thing only, you will get caught out somehow, somewhere, sometime. The sooner you can accept that you need it all to experience it all, you are on your way towards more of life's pleasurable sides. Predominantly!

Set a Landmarc:

Firstly: look in your life where you hold opposite feelings: are you doing swell in your career, but lousy in your relationship? Is your health great, but your wallet empty? See the opposites, and realise they are part of the one same thing.

Secondly: Where are you PREDOMINANTLY? Are you a pretty happy-go-lucky person, or are you generally more serious and careful? Does the "let's love life" attitude come at a price? Does the "life's a task" way of looking cost you something?

Thirdly: wherever you feel you are holding on to an undesired vibration/emotion/feeling: what's on the other side? What would you like to feel more of?

Lastly: start observing in which areas of your life you already have that desired feeling. It's there! It MUST be! You just have to find it! Spend a week looking, and let me know the answers on my blog.

Keep me posted!

All the best,

Marc

Awareness is Key

Return to www.landmarc.info

We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are. –Anais Nin.

Awareness is key. That is slowly becoming my signature statement, and it counts in both professional and private life.

I truly believe that constant and conscious awareness of what is going on inside and outside of us is the key to living a fulfilling life and running successful businesses.
Finding "the answer" is NOT the key. Let me explain.

In my practice I notice that most people are looking for "the answer". The answer to their perceived business mishaps, the answer to their perceived illnesses, the answer to their seemingly sad circumstances, the answer to why things happen the way they happen. But also: the answer to how to be successful, the answer to what makes us happy, the answer to how we can be of service to others best.

I must say: I was looking for the answer for years, and I realise I am sometimes looking still. By now, I have come to realise, though, that "THE answer" does not exist. There is not a one-size-fits-all solution to the challenges (both plus and minus) we face in life.

What I do know is that awareness of your thoughts, feelings, actions and language is the quickest road to your answer, for you. once you have learned to observe yourself, with as little judgment (preferably none) as possible, you will find there is immense power within you, power you can use to (re)create anything you like. So not only is there no "one-answer", it is also futile to look for the answer outside of ourselves.

Thoughts, feelings, emotions, words, they are all forms of energy. Depending on the context and where we are coming from (literally and figuratively speaking), we will put a negative or positive label on these energy forms. That does not change their original form, though; they are still packets of energy, neither good nor bad.

Awareness of all these "energy forms", without looking at the label, suddenly gives you awareness of power too. Just remember a time you were REALLY angry. Wasn't that powerful? Or a time you just HAD to do something to prevent a disaster from happening? Weren't you intensely energetic? Or think about a parent who sees her child in danger. Can't she do just about anything to save the child?

It was that sort of power that enabled me 7 years ago to break away from being an attorney, to have the guts to step into the unknown. Being afraid, but also feeling very powerful. I am not better than anyone, so if I can do it, anyone can.

When you realise that we all hold such powerful energy, you can start to harness it. But as I said, awareness is key. You will have to become "neutral" to the fluctuations of your mental and emotional moods (the more common name for these energy forms), and will have to start seeing the "power in the middle". Deepak Chopra calls this the "State of Grace", John Demartini defines it as "being grateful".

There are several ways to use this energy, and they will all contribute to you finding YOUR answers. In my practice, I teach several of the tools to get to this balanced place, from which you can set out lines for your business, your work, and your life in general. Once you master these skills, you can never be the same again. "Things" will start to change. For the better!

Set a Landmarc:

Firstly: become very aware of your mood swings, both towards the + and towards the -. Refrain from judgment. Just observe.

Secondly: Become aware of the power that lies in these "moods". When you are angry, feel that power. When you are frustrated, feel that energy. When you are excited, feel that force.

Thirdly: Read books, study ways, or get the tools to learn to master these states, and to let them become immensely effective (I can help!).

Lastly: take it easy. Life is not about forcing things into action. Be patient, and practice trust, both in professional and private environments.

A great saying goes:

Serenity is not seeking shelter from the storm, it is finding peace within it.

Balance lies......in the middle. That is the place to start from; that is the place from which great things happen.

Go make them happen!

Back Home!

Return to www.landmarc.info

Yep, I am back home, after about 4 weeks travel. I thought I would have time to update the blog, but I didn't (allow myself the time).

The Swedish and Dutch seminars I conducted were fabulous. Great feedback was given, and I will post them on the website at a later stage.

I explained many practicalities around the Law of Attraction (LOA) and linked it all in with Dreamtime Personalities. One of my theories is, that LOA works for everything and everyone, but everyone works LOA in a different way, depending on their personality type. When you start to see (and understand) that application of LOA by an Eagle Type person happens in a very different way than application of LOA by a Kangaroo Type person, life becomes a series of "a ha!" moments. Not only for yourself, but also for your perception of people around you.

The seminars all revolved around creating conscious awareness about creating our own lives, and were very well received. It is likely that I will go back next year, and conduct several more seminars. Good way to combine holidaying with fulfilling my purpose (=assisting people to create more awareness about their own lives, and those of others). Here's a nice picture of my family and me by the way!

Right now, it is back to basics. There are exciting things in the make for Dreamtime Personalities, and plenty of stuff to work on in my coaching practice. I am starting my second book soon, so be on the lookout for that in months to come.

Talk to you soon,

Marc

Getting More Out of Life

Return to www.landmarc.info

"There is a vast intelligence running this world, and everything is in order; nothing is missing"
~ John Demartini

Recently I had dinner with Dr. John Demartini here on the Sunshine Coast. For the people who don't know John, he is a professional speaker, author, and business consultant whose clients range from Wall Street financiers, financial planners, and corporate executives to health-care professionals, actors, and sports personalities. John began his career as a doctor of chiropractic and went on to explore more than 200 different disciplines in pursuit of what he calls Universal Principles of Life and Health. He featured not too long ago in the talked-about film "The Secret".

One of the concepts Dr. Demartini and I discussed is the principle of "nothing is missing", or -put differently- everything is here. Every situation that triggers a certain emotion, whether good or bad, holds the total opposite emotion as well, if you are willing to look for it.

You have to see it like a coin: you may only see one side, there is definitely a flip side. Neither one is "good" or "bad", but depending on your personal circumstance will you PERCEIVE one to be good, and the other one to be bad. More often than not will you not see the other side, though!

EXAMPLE

To give you an example: if you are insecure about health there must, by nature, also be a part in you that is totally secure, perhaps about your finances. If there is an area of your life where you are angry, there are other areas in your life where you are totally happy.

Another example: in every event that you consider negative, there is something positive or beneficial as well. The situation IS of benefit somewhere, because where there is one side, there is a flip side!

Of course this is a simplified version of what we discussed, but it holds great truths. The event of my mother dying 12 years ago, for instance, had very negative sides to it. If, on the other hand, I check how my life has evolved after that event, I see a lot of "good stuff" too.

PERCEPTION

It is all in our perception that we judge events and people "good" or "bad". If we focus on just one side of the coin, it will give us a lopsided perception, and "nature" will balance that one out, one day! Why not do it yourself, and have love and appreciation for the event/situation/person in question. Saying "thanks" to everything and everyone that plays a part in your life (yes, everyone and every thing!) will allow for more events/people to be grateful for, which is absolutely worth while.

SET A LANDMARC:

Firstly: Find out in your life where you have a lopsided perception regarding a person or event. Anything you feel overly positive or overly negative about will give a good indication.

Secondly: With the "bad stuff", see how it has benefited you. How has it taught you a valuable lesson you still use today? With the good stuff, see what drawbacks there are to what you consider "good". If you don't find them yourself, life is going to show them to you anyway!

Thirdly: realise that there is always balance in what you experience. This is one of the Universal Laws: "everything is", neither good or bad. It just "is".

Lastly: be grateful and appreciative for the lessons taught, and experiences had. The more you can do that consciously, the more you will find that life always flows according to its purpose, even when we think it doesn't. Trust me, I can tell from experience that there is more that I am able to see. Arrogance is thinking that I know it all!

Once you are able to find balance in everything, life becomes very enjoyable. You will lose "infatuation" with anything, and will lose "desperation" with other things. You will come to appreciate that life is the way it is, and that it is up to use to make the best of it for ourselves and those around us. Which is a rewarding journey.

Talk to you next time!

All the best,

Marc

Funny!

return to www.landmarc.info

Hi there,

For quite some time now, I have been receiving emails (and responding to them!) from Berend Lange -look here for more info about him: http://bluecrane.wordpress.com/.

This week he sent me an email with words to add to our vocabulary. Have these people “attracted” (as in the LOA) these events? And if so, why have they done that?

My belief is that we attract everything we experience. All the people, situations, events, emotions and thoughts are coming to us because of LOA. A fact is that we all vibrate (ask the quantum scientists!). A fact is also that like vibrations attract like vibrations, like iron filings to a magnet. Given these facts, I choose to believe that yes, even illnesses and disabilities are attracted by us because of the vibration we emit.

I totally realise that this can be a hard thing to swallow for the people who go through these situations. There are a couple of things I would like you to realise in this context:

1) LOA doesn’t discriminate between “good” or “bad” vibrations. It just matches the vibration we put out there. “Good” and “bad” are judgments WE make about what’s happening, depending on our personal beliefs. What’s good for one is lousy for another, and vice versa. Generally we tend to think of illnesses and disabilities as “bad”, but that is OUR value we put on it.

2) We generally DO NOT put out vibrations intentionally, on purpose –learning how to vibrate deliberately is what I teach! So even though things may seem to go okay, there is always a chance of unconscious attraction, based upon underground collective beliefs, cultural beliefs, genetic beliefs, community beliefs, national beliefs, etc. Again, these vibes can be positive or negative, but we’ll only know when the “event” or “experience” shows up.

3) There is no “REASON WHY” per se. There can only be a why depending on our ideas about our purpose in life. And what we perceive to be our purpose on earth is such a personal topic that generalised answers to the “why does this happen” question can not be given. It will be different for each and every person.

Our task with scenarios like the ones my fellow coach mentioned is two-fold:

1) Always endeavour to consciously have as high a vibration as possible. The higher your vibrations (or in plain English: the better you feel, and the more positive you approach life), the less likely the chance that you will subconsciously attract something you do not want to happen. I can teach you how to do that.

2) When an event occurs that you consider “negative” (remember: that is YOUR judgment), have as much conscious control over your response to the situation. In life we cannot control everything. Life WILL throw curve balls, even when you think you are vibrating/feeling great. Your power then lies in your “response-ability”, and your conscious choice to see the situation either as positive or negative. LOA doesn’t care which choice you make, but I’ll bet ya: the end results of both options are like day and night: totally opposite! I can help you making the right choices consistently.

Set a Landmarc:

Firstly, Observe your feelings as good as you can: you are always vibrating, and your vibrations are always plus or minus. Your feelings will tell you what you are attracting.

Secondly, When you are vibrating minus, realize that it probably happened subconsciously, and that you can change that vibration.

Thirdly, Don’t go into the “why” question too deeply. Like in the quote on top, there is a purpose in everything, but if you cannot find it yet, let it go!

Lastly, Your power lies in your response-ability. If you feel you don’t have any control over what happened, at least choose your response as positively as possible.

We cannot avoid “stuff” from happening in our lives. There is always a possibility of attracting something we do not want. Accept that, and in those cases, be in control over how you deal with that situation. The better you do that, the less bad the situation will become.

If you have a question about this, feel free to start up a discussion!

Marc

The Secret Interview

Return to www.landmarc.info

Hi there,

I’m sure you’ve heard of the wildly popular film and best-selling book, The Secret, by now.
The stars of the show have appeared everywhere from CNN to Oprah, Larry King to Show Biz Tonight and The New York Times.

But what nobody has shared yet is the REAL story.

So when I found out my friends at Healthy Wealthy nWise were providing an authorized, intimate portrait with creator and executive producer, Rhonda Byrne, I had to check it out. By the way, they’re calling it The Story Behind The Secret.

Rhonda is using this interview to share her side of the story about The Secret and the way it is gaining massive momentum on the way to bringing Joy to Billions. Just as she and her team intended it would back in 2004.

http://www.healthywealthynwise.com/cmd.asp?Clk=1911375

What you haven't heard in all the media frenzy is Rhonda Byrne's intimate REAL story behind The Secret that must be told.

In this heart-felt one-on-one interview, Marci Shimoff (co-author of the mega-best-seller Chicken Soup for the Woman's Soul & star of The Secret) will ask Rhonda many of your burning questions that weren't asked in the mainstream media.

If you wanted to know ...

• the inside story behind the creation and unfolding of The Secret that the other guys glossed over...

• the unique never-before-revealed way she used the principles of The Secret herself to turn The Secret into a global phenomenon (6 million people in Ghana, Africa who would never have been able to experience this wisdom were able to watch the secret for FREE because of this principle...)

• about the surprising plans for The Secret II…

Then this interview is a must.

http://www.healthywealthynwise.com/cmd.asp?Clk=1911375

So here is the really great part, when I talked to my friends over at Healthy Wealthy nWise and they told me I could invite you to attend the LIVE Story Behind The Secret Interview as my guest – for no charge!

Your ticket is waiting for you at…

http://www.healthywealthynwise.com/cmd.asp?Clk=1911375

Now the publicity for this interview is massive so space is very limited. The comments we received after the call were all positive, and the participants took away lessons they can immediately use in their lives. Scott and I were both up in the sky after the calls; this is big!

I am pleased to announce our third Global Master Mind Call. We will be co-hosting this call at 7am Brisbane, Australia time (AEST) on the 11th of April 2007. This will be 3pm Denver, Colorado US time (MST) on the 10th of April and 10pm London, UK time (GMT) on the 10th of april 2007. To make sure I got it right, or to find a different time zone, please check

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Conference Dial-in Number: Intl. code for the USA , and then
(712) 580-6300 Participant Access Code: 126013#

The duration of the call will be 45 minutes to 1 hour, dependin gon the amount of questions & comments. The calls will be recorded (if the systems allow us!).
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Joining the Global Master Mind is absolutely free, apart from your regular dial-in cost; check call cards for cheap deals!

As with the last call, this one will be recorded for your convenience. We will not allow too many people in (10-15 max, to keep participation at highest level), so let us know if you want to join!!

I will be discussing the concept of "letting go" and"non-attachment" in regard to goal setting, all linking in with the Law of Attraction. It is -I feel- one of the topics people struggle with in their lives (i.e. not becoming attached to the outcome of what it is they want), and I like to create clarity on the topic.

It will be a fun session with hopefully "heaps" of input.

In the meanwhile,go to our private forum and sign up:

http://groups.msn.com/SuccessCoachesStudentsInternational.

The forum is private to keep out spammers, and allows for recording your action steps and other members keeping us accountable for them!

Go there NOW and join!

Best regards, and talk to you soon,

Marc

Getting More Out of Life Ezine

Return to www.landmarc.info

"Language is the dress of thought." ~Samuel Johnson

Hi there,

And welcome to the 23 March 2007 edition of Getting More Out of Life.

I've been a litigation lawyer for nearly 6 years. In that time -and even before in my studies- I was very aware of the power of words.

Now that I am a NLP practitioner, and work with the "language of the mind", words have become even more important, I feel. The Law of Attraction adds to this as well: the words you habitually think and speak are creating your future! They make your brain focus on the topic of your words, which will in turn guide your senses to look for anything that makes that topic reality!

6 Words to delete from your vocabulary FAST
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Words are immensely important. Not because of the letters that form the word, but the meaning they convey. Words influence our habitual thinking, and therefore our habitual behaviour.

There are 6 words in our vocabulary that are quite deadly when it comes to applying the Law of Attraction in personal or business life. Here they are:

Need (to), must, have (to), ought (to), should and got (to).

Examples: if I want to be rich, I need to work harder; if I want to get good grades, I must study all night; I should get that out of my head, if I want to improve my life, etc.

These words are what I call conditional. When you use them, you basically tell yourself that you will not get a specific result, UNLESS you perform a specific action. You thereby -in your mind-cancel out many other "action-options" that may exist, and will not take those into account; you will put blinkers on, and will generally not consider more possibilities.

Exception and Alternative
--------------------------------------------------------------------
It is not always the case, though; if there is a functional relationship between the word and the action, there is no harm done. For instance: if I want to quench my thirst, I need to drink something. There is no real conditional thinking here.

Wiser in relationship to the more destructive/conditional words would it be to use words like these:

Decide, choose, commit, desire, endeavour, will, intend.

When you use this type of word, you subconsciously acknowledge there are many options to get to a specific result, but you have chosen one of the options for the time being, to assess whether it is effective. Using constructive words stimulates your brain to come up with more options, and hold on to them for future reference.

MAJOR difference!

Set a Landmarc
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly: Start catching yourself on the words you are using. Anytime you find yourself "needing", "shoulding", "musting".........STOP!

Secondly: When you use a destructive word, replace it with a constructive one. Start choosing, deciding, and committing!

Thirdly: Observe how your brain -sometimes immediately- comes up with more alternatives to get to the desired result once you allow yourself to think bigger!

Lastly: Observe how you can take the mental pressure off yourself when you stop using the destructive words. You will probably feel less harried, and more relaxed when you realise (and consistently see results) that there is more than just one road to victory!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I guarantee you will see the difference in not only your own behaviour, but also in your results when you decide to become more aware of your language! Go do it!

Right now I need to put this Word document in my autoresponder!

Until next time, and expect greatness!

Best regards,

Marc

PS: did I mention being co-author in this great book, "101 Ways to Improve Your Life, Vol. III"? I am extremely excited to be a contributing author along with Ken Blanchard, Les Brown, Mark Victor Hansen, Byron Katie and many other leading Self Improvement experts.

For more information, go to: http://www.1shoppingcart.com/app/?Clk=1801176

busy busy busy

Return to www.landmarc.info

pfff,

Haven't had much time to do much of anything, the last couple of weeks. I've been busy with doing "stuff" for the Australian Life Coaching Society (www.lifecoaching.net.au; I am one of the Board Members), and having meetings with several people to look into affilliations and/or joint ventures.

A major one for me is the opportunity to work on Glenn Dietzel's team, which was given to me a couple of months ago.

Glenn is the man behind the absolutely amazing Awaken the Author Within program(www.awakentheauthorwithin.com) and behind The Person You Must Become (www.thepersonyoumustbecome.com), and I am starting to consider him as one of my mentors. I am very proud and honoured to be on his team, and hey, that must say something about me too, wouldn't you say :-)

A couple of local JVs are in the offing as well. I am deciding very soon whether I am going to partner with Michael White, the man who invented the Dreamtime Personalities Type Indicator(www.dreamtimepersonalities.com). I am already using his profiling system on many of my clients to "tweak" their success mentality, and would like to take the concept to greater heights.

In short: stay tuned for more exciting news in the near future!

Oh, and I intend to start posting beautiful pictures of this beautiful country I am living in. Why? Just for the sheer fun of it!

Talk soon!

Marc

PS: here's the first one (picture, that is).

Philip Island, Victoria

Birthday

Return to www.landmarc.info

Hi,

Last Sunday was my birthday (thanks for all the good wishes!), which also coincided with a Lunar eclipse.

Westminster Abbey in London!

Now, I have friends who know waaaaaay more than I about the astrological effects of lunar eclipes, but the upshot of their stories was, that this phenomenon brings about powerful energies which can be used for goal setting, and dream building. Now isn't that a cool birthday present!?

So what I did, after I was treated to presents and breakfast on the morning of the 4th by my two girls, was write down my top 5 goals, the real biggies! I then Visualised them already being fulfilled for about half an hour, which I normally do anyway, but now with even more vigour!

I'm not going to blow the whistle on what I have intended (yet), but I promise to inform you as soon as one or more of them materialise (the Law of Attraction is going to help me here!). I have all the confidence that I will get my goals to become visible for all of us!

If you would like to know how I use the Law of Attraction within my creative visualising, drop me an email, or book in for a free exploratory session; I'll tell you all about that, trust me. I recently came across one of these people.

Her name is Tracy Woolley, and she is a photographer on the Sunshine Coast (www.nautilusgallery.com). You can find more information about Tracy herself here: http://www.nautilusgallery.com/first.html. This is a piccie of her, by the way (stole it off her site; she won't mind....hopefully):

Apart from making stunning pictures, she also inspires people around her to create a life that they have always imagined, in their wildest dreams! The website to go to to sign up for a daily dosis of inspiration is www.inspireyourday.com.au. Definitely a "recommender", as we would say in Dutch.

Tracy has kindly offered to lend me a hand making one of my dreams come true: going to Hawaii, all expenses paid. Here is what she wrote in her message today:

Let's Help Marc Reach His Dream Goal.

One of my goals this year is to inspire 100 people to follow there dreams. (I have it stuck on the wall along with 12 others!). Marc has been one of you lovely people who have been sending me emails of encouragement and comments, to which I have responded.

Now I have come to know Marc and would love to help him with reaching a HUGE dream goal of his and ask that you help him too, if you will!

......

Marc is part of a scholarship program to a 3 day Breakthrough to Success - Wealth and Power weekend seminar, with international accelerated human change expert, Christopher Howard in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Perth & London. Marc has completely COMPLIMENTARY tickets (valued at $1790 for 2 tickets) to give away to any location.

AND...for having 100 people enrol through Marc and attend the seminar he will win a Dream Goal trip to HAWAII.

So come along to this amazing weekend and help Marc's dream come true. Remember your help will be returned to you, always! You CAN do it Marc!

Inspirationally,Tracy

P.S.
